CLEARWATER — An employee is suing a Florida corporation, citing alleged intentional infliction of emotional distress and violation of workers' compensation laws.
Roxanne Edens filed a complaint on May 16 in the 6th Judicial Circuit of Florida-Pinellas County against Hollstrom & Associates, Inc. alleging that the defendant improperly discharged and terminated an employee.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between Feb. 3, 2017 and Feb. 1, 2018, she was injured while in the course and scope of her employment with the defendant and made a valid claim for compensation benefits. Despite acknowledging the claim and providing medical benefits, Hollstrom & Associates allegedly refused to provide Edens further work, improperly discharged and terminated her and did not pay her compensation benefits.
As a result, she suffered loss of income, mental anguish, loss of credit, medical expenses and emotional distress.
The plaintiff holds Hollstrom & Associates, Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to provide further work, improperly discharged, terminated and subjected an employee to financial hardship by its deliberate interference with obtainment of workers' compensation benefits.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages exceeding $15,000, excluding costs, interest, attorney's fees and such other relief the court deems necessary and proper. She is represented by Catherine F. Agacinski of Silver & Agacinski, PA in Tampa.
