Homeowner claims Olympus Insurance reneged on paying up after home catches on fire

Insurance 02

ORLANDO — A homeowner is suing an insurer for breach of contract, alleging the company refused to pay full coverage of damages due to a fire.

Mildred Miranda filed a complaint May 15 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Orange County against Olympus Insurance Company alleging that the insurer refused to pay for the coverage on insurance claim.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 25, 2017 her home at 11633 Numbus Lane suffered severe damages from a fire, while the insurance policy was in full force and effect. She promptly reported the loss. Despite acknowledging the claim and inspecting the property twice, the defendant allegedly refused to pay the full amount of the coverage. As a result, Miranda incurred further damages and costs in home repairs.

The plaintiff holds Olympus Insurance Company responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to acknowledge full coverage, and refused to pay any costs or estimates beyond its original offer or estimate.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury; and seeks damages in excess of $15,000, plus interest, costs, attorney's fees, and any other further relief the court deems just and proper. She is represented by Charles Parker, Jr. of Mapp & Parker, PA in Orlando and Rand Saltsgaver of Law Offices of Rand Saltsgaver in Orlando.
