Guest alleges Super 8 hotel's negligence led to bed bug bites

CLEARWATER — A Leon County couple is suing a Super 8 hotel, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries in the form of bed bug bites.

Farhana Juman and Mohamed Juman filed a complaint May 8 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Jai Laxmi LLC, doing business as Super 8, alleging the defendant failed to protect business invitees from hazardous conditions.

According to the complaint, between May 6-7, 2015, when the Jumans stayed in the defendant's Super 8 hotel in Clearwater. they were suddenly, and without warning bitten by bed bugs. As a result, the suit says, the plaintiffs suffered numerous intensely itchy bites resulting in large, painful welts that required medical treatment, multiple dark splotches, loss of sleep, mental distress and expense of hospitalization.

The plaintiffs allege Super 8 failed in the management, maintenance, operation and/or ownership of the hotel, and breached to fulfill its duty to care for and protect business invitees from hazardous conditions.

The Jumans seek trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus taxable costs, interest, attorney fees and all other relief the court deems just and proper. They are represented by attorney Steven J. Litvack of  Boca Raton.
