Orlando property owners allege insurer failed to cover hurricane damage

Insurance 09

ORLANDO — Two Orlando property owners are suing an insurer, alleging breach of contract.

Edwin Rodriguez and Ramon Rodriguez filed a complaint May 7 in Orange County Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, alleging failure to pay for damages caused by a hurricane.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, Edwin Rodriguez and Ramon Rodriguez sustained economic damages, including damaged property and repair costs, when their property at 635 Romano Ave., Orlando was substantially damaged by Hurricane Irma. The suit says their insurance policy was in full force and effect but Security First has refused to pay the full amount of the plaintiffs' claim.

The plaintiffs allege Security First Insurance has failed to timely evaluate and pay the full amount of policy benefits owed to the plaintiffs, and failed to comply with the terms of the policy.

Edwin and Ramon Rodriguez seek trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, court costs, interest, attorney fees and all other relief the court deems just. They are represented by attorney Ely R. Levy of Militzok & Levy PA in Hollywood, Florida.
