Visitor alleges health care facilities' negligence led to injuries

Slip01

CLEARWATER — A visitor is suing St. Petersburg health care facilities, alleging negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Cotina Holloman, formerly known as Cortina Wallace, filed a complaint May 3 in Pinellas Circuit Court against St. Anthony's Hospital Inc. and Baycare Health System Inc., alleging failure to provide a safe environment for business invitees.

According to the complaint, on June 12, 2014, Holloman was lawfully on the defendants' property, 1220 Seventh Ave. N., St. Petersburg. The suit says Holloman slipped and fell to the ground due to a slippery substance that was allowed to remain on the hallway of St. Anthony's Hospital.

Holloman says the fall caused her to suffer bodily injury, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, the incurring of medical expenses, loss of earnings and/or aggravation of a pre-existing condition.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to warn her of the latent or concealed defects on the property, failed to inspect and maintain premises free from hazard, and failed to implement policies to prevent slippery, foreign substances that can cause harm.

Holloman seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus costs and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorneys Paul R. Cavonis and Joseph M. Murphy of Deloach, Hofstra & Cavonis PA in Seminole.
