CLEARWATER — A Clearwater mother is suing the county school board, alleging negligent supervision regarding the safety of her child.

Vera Collins filed a complaint May 3 in Pinellas Circuit Court against the Pinellas County School Board, alleging failure to follow applicable safety guidelines and regulations.

According to the complaint, on May 9, 2017, at the Belleaire Elementary School playground in Clearwater, her minor child fell from the monkey bars. The suit says the child sustained injuries that are permanent in nature and will continue into the future as a result of the negligent monitoring and supervision of an agent of the defendant to allow a minor child to play in an area designated for older children.

The plaintiff alleges the Pinellas County School Board allowed her child to inappropriately utilize a play area that is not fitting for the child's age, thus creating a dangerous condition.

The plaintiff seeks trial by jury and damages in excess of $15,000. She is represented by attorney Frank DiCosola of Pinellas Park.
