ORLANDO — An Orange County woman is suing a Florida beauty business, alleging negligence caused her to be injured by a falling sign.

Marelis Morales Martinez filed a complaint April 9 in Orange County Circuit Court against Ulta Beauty Cosmetics LLC, alleging failure to follow applicable safety guidelines and regulations.

According to the complaint, on May 3, 2017, Martinez was an invitee at Ulta Beauty's private event at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The suit says Martinez was struck by a falling sign.

Martinez says she sustained injuries and damages, including pain and suffering, impairment, disability, inconvenience, aggravation of physical disease or defect, disfigurement, mental anguish, medical expenses and loss of earnings.

The plaintiff alleges Ulta Beauty Cosmetics failed to adequately inspect and maintain the sign, failed to warn Martinez of the improperly secured sign, and failed to properly communicate safety/maintenance procedures to its independent contractors and agents.

Martinez seeks trial by jury, damages that exceed $15,000, plus court costs, interest, attorney fees and all other just and proper relief. She is represented by attorney Zachary A. Leacox of McBride, Scicchitano & Leacox PA in Orlando.
