CLEARWATER — A guest is is suing a Treasure Island motel, alleging negligence.

Kathleen Hawkins filed a complaint April 6 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Sea Chest of Treasure Island Inc., doing business as Sea Chest Motel, alleging failure to provide a safe and secure environment.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 5, 2017, Hawkins was a guest at the Sea Chest Motel in Treasure Island when she slipped and fell in the bathtub of her motel room. The suit says Hawkins suffered bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish and aggravation of a previous existing condition.

The lawsuit says Hawkins' injuries resulted from defendants' negligence in failing to install anti-slip material on the surface of the bathtub and allowing the hazardous condition to exist for a sufficient length of time.

The plaintiff alleges Sea Chest Motel failed to install slip-prevention devises, failed to warn Hawkins of the dangerous condition and failed to take actions to reduce, minimize or eliminate foreseeable risks.

Hawkins seeks trial by jury and damages that exceed $15,000. She is represented by attorney Misty Morgan Vianna of Mander Law Group in Dade City.
