Customer alleges negligence caused injuries at greyhound track

Slip02

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County man is suing a St. Petersburg greyhound track, alleging negligence caused injuries to the plaintiff.

John Filipelli filed a complaint April 12 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Derby Lane LLC, doing business as Derby Lane Greyhound Track, alleging failure to exercise reasonable care for the safety of guests.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 22, 2018, Filipelli was at the Derby Lane track when he slipped and fell due to an uneven and neglected ramp. As a result of the defendant's negligence, Filipelli says, he was injured in and about his body and extremities, incurred medical expenses, pain and suffering of both physical and mental nature, loss of ability to lead and enjoy a normal life and loss of wages.

The plaintiff alleges Derby Lane Greyhound Track failed to adequately maintain the area in and around the ramp, and failed to adequately correct the dangerous condition.

Filipelli seeks trial by jury, judgment in excess of $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs and attorney fees. He is represented by attorney Joseph A. Kopacz of Morgan & Morgan PA in Tampa.
