ORLANDO — A tenant is suing Orlando apartment property owners, alleging negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Karen Blanford filed a complaint March 30 in Orange County Circuit Court against Hatenback Orlando Apartments LLC, Hatenback House LLC, Haten Back LLC and Victoria Walker, alleging failure to provide a safe environment for its tenant.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 30, 2017, Blanford was renting an apartment on the defendants’ premises at 41 E. Winter Park St., Apartment D, Orlando. The suit says Blanford tripped and fell on a damaged stairwell that was made more dangerous by the lack of external lighting.

As a result, Blanford says she sustained injuries in and about his body and extremities, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, permanent and significant scarring, mental anguish, loss of earnings and aggravation of a previous existing condition.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to maintain the stairs and external lights, and failed to inspect or adequately warn Blanford of the stairwell danger.

Blanford seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus interest and costs. She is represented by attorney Varun Ramnarine of Morgan & Morgan PA in Orlando.
