FORT LAUDERDALE — A Broward County pedestrian is suing a motorist, alleging negligence caused injuries to the plaintiff.

Samuel Merrill Lucas filed a complaint March 20 in Broward Circuit Court against Staley Aquilla Weidman III, alleging failure to exercise standard care and skill in the operation of a vehicle.

According to the complaint, on April 13, 2016, Lucas was walking on SW 12th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, near the intersection with state Road 84. The suit says a vehicle driven by Weidman backed into Lucas.

Lucas says he was injured in and about his body and extremities, aggravated a pre-existing condition, suffered pain, loss of income and incurred medical expenses, as a result of Weidman's carelessness in operating his vehicle in an unsafe manner.

The plaintiff alleges Weidman failed to keep a proper lookout and/or notice Lucas while backing his vehicle, and failed to properly maintain and control his motor vehicle.

Lucas seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Robert C. Solomon of Law Office of Saban & Solomon in Plantation.
