Orlando resident alleges insurance carrier failed to cover wind damages

Insurance 09

ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing, an insurance carrier, alleging breach of contract.

Jose Figueroa filed a complaint March 14 in Orange County Circuit Court against Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Company, alleging failure to cover damages from a hurricane.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, Figueroa sustained wind damage from Hurricane Irma to his insured property at 107 Grand Junction Blvd. Orlando. However, the suit says, Universal Property has refused to provide full coverage of Figueroa's claim despite having performed all necessary inspections and evaluations of the loss.

The plaintiff alleges Universal Property and Casualty Insurance has failed to properly indemnify him for the loss he sustained, and failed to reimburse Figueroa to put his home and personal property to its pre-loss condition.

Figueroa seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, plus interest on any repairs necessary, attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by attorney Paul T. Zeniewicz of PZ Law Firm PA in Orlando.
