FORT LAUDERDALE — Pembroke Pines property owners are suing an insurance carrier, alleging breach of contract.
Mercedes and Juan Alvarez filed a complaint March 9 in Broward Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, doing business as Security First Florida, alleging failure to cover water damages from a plumbing breakdown.
According to the complaint, on March 13, 2017, Mercedes and Juan Alvarez suffered severe damages to their property at 1090 Windward Drive, Pembroke Pines as a result of a plumbing failure in one the bathrooms. Although the Alvarezes say they quickly made a claim for benefits as required by the policy, Security First breached the policy by failing to provide coverage for the plaintiffs' loss.
The plaintiffs allege Security First Florida failed to fully indemnify the Alvarezes pursuant to the terms and condition of the policy, and failed to cover and pay all of plaintiffs' damages and losses.
The Alvarezes seek trial by jury, actual and consequential damages of more than $15,000, interest, attorney fees, court costs and all other remedies the court deems just. They are represented by attorney Luis A. Mena of Mena Law Firm in Miami.
