Apopka homeonwer alleges insurer failed to pay for hurricane damage

Insurance 03

ORLANDO — An Apopka homeowner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of an insurance contract.

Trevor Abrahams filed a complaint March 1 in Orange County Circuit Court against Federated National Insurance Company, alleging failure to cover damages from a hurricane.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 11, 2017, his property at 1439 Dunn Cove Drive, Apopka was damaged by Hurricane Irma, a covered loss under Abrahams' policy issued by Federated National. However, the suit says, the defendant has breached the contract by failing to pay full value for roofing and/or construction services to the plaintiff.

The plaintiff alleges Federated National Insurance has failed to pay all of his damages and/or estimates, and failed to reimburse Abrahams adequately for the damages so as to return the property to its pre-loss condition.

Abrahams seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, all unpaid and overdue insurance benefits with interest, court costs, attorney fees and all other just remedies. He is represented by attorney Margaret E. Garner of Cohen Law Group in Maitland.
