Customer blames Macy's for injuries

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing Macy's, alleging negligence caused injuries to the plaintiff.

Stephanie Pio filed a complaint Feb. 26 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Macy's Florida Stores LLC, Luke's Landscaping Inc., and Simon Property Group LP, alleging failure to maintain their premises in a safe condition.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 10, 2017, Pio parked her vehicle in a parking space on the defendants' property at Tyrone Square, St. Petersburg. The suit says as Pio walked away from her car, she twisted her ankle and foot and fell, injuring herself due to a hole concealed on what seemed to be firm grass.

Pio says she sustained pain and suffering, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of earnings, and aggravation of a previous existing condition.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to warn her of the dangerous condition that they should have known about, and failed to maintain the premises in a safe condition.

Pio seeks trial by jury damages of more than $15,000, court costs and prejudgment interest. She is represented by attorney Robert J. Healy Jr. of Salter, Healy, Bassett & Rivera in St. Petersburg.
