CLEARWATER — A former employee is suing a St. Petersburg law firm, alleging violation the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Sherri La Ferrara filed a complaint Feb. 19 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Callahan Law Firm LLC and Michael Callahan, alleging violation of the FLSA.

According to the complaint, between September 2014 and December 2014, LA Ferrara worked as a legal assistant for Callahan Law. The suit says La Ferrara has suffered the loss of earnings for working additional hours in excess of 40 per week, and not being compensated at the statutory rate of one and a half times her regular rate of pay as required by FLSA.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants denied La Ferrara's right to receive at least minimum wages for every hour worked, showed reckless disregard of the provisions of the FLSA, and unlawfully treated her as an exempt employee.

La Ferrara seeks trial by jury, all unpaid overtime compensation, liquidated damages, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Mitchell L. Feldman of Feldman Williams PLLC in Tampa.
