CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County cyclist is suing a motorist, alleging the defendant's negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Juston Cook filed a complaint Feb. 19 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Susan Rake McNutt, alleging failure to to exercise standard care and skill in operating a vehicle.

According to the complaint, on April 7, 2017, a car driven by McNutt collided with Cook, who was biking at the intersection of 54th Street North and 49th Street North in Pinellas County. The collision caused Cook to sustain bodily injury, pain and suffering, disfigurement, disability, mental anguish, loss of earnings, inconvenience, and medical expenses of more than $75,000.

The plaintiff alleges McNutt failed to pay attention to traffic and keep a proper lookout for other vehicles and people.

Cook seeks trial by jury, damages that exceed $15,000, plus costs of action. He is represented by attorney Jessica E. Shahady of The Ruth Law Team in St. Petersburg.
