CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing a St. Petersburg medical facility, alleging negligence caused her injuries.

Alyce Chamness filed a complaint Feb. 20 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Bayfront HMA Medical Center LLC, doing business as Bayfront Health, alleging the defendant failed to exercise standard care and skill required of a medical facility.

According to the complaint, on April 1, 2017, upon Chamness' admission to the defendant's facility at 701 6th St. S., St. Petersburg, she suffered a fall. The suit says Chamness, who was susceptible to falling, sustained a fractured right hip that required surgical intervention as a result of the negligence of the defendant in the maintenance of its premises.

The plaintiff alleges Bayfront Health failed to appropriately implement fall risk interventions, and failed to timely respond to a call light utilized by a patient at risk for falls.

Chamness seeks trial by jury, judgment in excess of $15,000 exclusive of interest and court costs. She is represented by attorney Andy B. Steingold of Maney / Gordon PA in Tampa.
