Orlando homeowners allege insurer failed to cover water damage

Insurance 07

ORLANDO — Two Orlando homeowners are suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Joseph Anthony and Chenelle Collins filed a complaint Feb. 8 in Orange County Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, alleging failure to pay for water damage.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 7, 2017, while their property's insurance was in full force and effect for their home at 3771 Rambling Rose Court, Orlando, the plaintiffs suffered a covered loss from an accidental discharge of water from a plumbing system. However, the suit says, Security First has breached the policy contract by refusing to pay the full amount of insurance proceeds.

The plaintiffs allege Security First Insurance obligated Anthony and Collins to engage attorneys for the prosecution of court action, and refused to pay the full amount of insurance proceeds due to the plaintiffs.

Anthony and Collins seek trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus statutory interest, court costs and attorney fees. They are represented by attorneys Pierre A. Louis and Valerie L. Raphael of Louis Law Group in Miramar.
