Tenant blames St. Petersburg condo owner for injuries

Slip01

CLEARWATER — A tenant is suing the owners of a St. Petersburg condominium building, alleging negligence caused injuries to the plaintiff.

Alicia Summerlin filed a complaint Feb. 2 in Pinellas Circuit Court against The Wave Condominium Association of St. Petersburg Inc. and Professional Bayway Management Company, alleging failure to provide a safe and secure environment.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 1, 2016, Summerlin was renting a condo at Waves Condominium on 58th Avenue South, St. Petersburg. The suit says Summerlin fell on water that was allowed by the defendants' negligent employee to remain on the floor area of the stairwell.

Summerlin says she sustained bodily injury, pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of earnings and aggravation of a pre-existing condition.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to correct and/or provide warning for a dangerous condition, and failed to manage, maintain and inspect the stairwells and other common areas inside their property.

Summerlin seeks trial by jury, damages of at least $15,000, plus interest and court costs. She is represented by attorney Brett Berger of Maney & Gordon PA in Tampa.
