Orlando couple alleges insurance carrier failed to pay for hurricane damage

ORLANDO — An Orlando couple is suing an insurance carrier, alleging breach of contract.

Alexander and Sandra Sarraga filed a complaint Jan. 8 in Orange County Circuit Court against St. Johns Insurance Company Inc., alleging failure to cover damages from a hurricane.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, the Sarragas suffered a covered loss to their home at 10326 St. Ives Court, Orlando, as a result of Hurricane Irma. However, the suit says, St. Johns has denied their claim for storm damages.

The plaintiffs allege St. Johns Insurance has forced them to retain the services of an attorney and failed to make any payment of insurance proceeds.

The Sarragas seek trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, interest, court costs and attorney fees. They are represented by attorney David R. Heil of Winter Park.
