Orlando property owner alleges insurance carrier failed to cover hurricane damages

Insurance 07

ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Shirley Pryor filed a complaint Jan. 5 in Orange County Circuit Court against American Integrity Insurance Company of Florida, alleging the insurance carrier failed to cover damages from a hurricane..

According to the complaint, on Oct. 7, 2016, while Pryor's homeowner’s insurance was in full force and effect, Hurricane Matthew struck her residence at 5320 Ashmeade Road, Orlando, without any warning or anticipation. The suit says the hurricane damaged several areas of the home.

However, Pryor says American Integrity breached the insurance contract by refusing to provide coverage for the loss.

The plaintiff alleges American Integrity Insurance Company of Florida failed to timely evaluate and pay the benefits owed Pryor and failed to provide the necessary reimbursement for a covered loss in accordance with the insurance contract.

Pryor seeks trial by jury, all damages of at least $15,000, plus interest on overdue payments, attorney fees, court costs and all relief deemed just. She is represented by attorney Rafael F. Garcia of MSPG Law Group of Central Florida PLLC in Orlando.
