McDonald's accused of serving excessively hot coffee

ORLANDO—An individual is suing McDonald's Restaurants of Florida Inc., citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence.

Jazmin Garcia filed a complaint on Jan. 5 in the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court alleging that the Florida corporation failed to keep its property reasonable safe for the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 3, 2016, she sustained serious physical injuries including severe burns when a coffee spilled onto her. 

The plaintiff holds McDonald's Restaurants of Florida. responsible because the defendant allegedly allowed its employees to serve coffee at an excessive temperature to customers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury; and seeks judgment against the defendant for damages an amount that exceeds $15,000 plus interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Justin W. Pimenta of Abrahamson & Ulterwyk in Tampa.
