ORLANDO — A Orange County patient is suing Ocoee medical facilities, alleging medical negligence.

James Shackleford filed a complaint Jan. 3 in Orange County Circuit Court against Orlando Health Central Inc., doing business as Health Central Hospital, Dr. Mitchell Supler, et al. alleging defendants failed to provide competent medical care for emergency situations.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 8, 2015, Shackleford sustained injuries from a fall which resulted in his hospitalization Health Central Hospital. Shackleford says during his surgeries and re-admission to the hospital, his neurological condition deteriorated significantly. The suit says he became medically unstable with a high white blood cell count and has remained paralyzed in his lower extremities, without normal control and function of his bowel and bladder that has become permanent. 

As a result, Shackleford says he has suffered permanent, catastrophic bodily injuries, mental anguish and the expense of hospitalization. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to perform adequate neurological checks and failed to promptly notify physicians involved in providing care and treatment to patient's declining neurological function/condition.

Shackelford seeks trial by jury, damages under Florida law, including economic and non-economic damages, court costs together, plus prejudgment interest where applicable. He is represented by attorney Stephan LeClainche of Palm Beach Gardens.
