Orlando homeowner alleges insurer failed to cover damages

Insurance 07

ORLANDO — An Orlando policy owner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Ronald Serres filed a complaint Jan. 3 in Orange County Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, doing business as Security First Florida, alleging the policy contract to pay for damages of the property.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, Serres' dwelling and personal property at 7215 Brockbank Ave., Orlando, was damaged by wind and/or hail, and associated water intrusion caused by Hurricane Irma. Serres says he complied with all conditions precedent to entitle him to recover under the policy but the defendant has refused to pay for the damages his property suffered.

The plaintiff alleges Security First Florida has refused to pay to replace and/or repair the policy owner's dwelling and personal property and failed to pay the statutory interest penalties and statutory attorney fees required by law.

Serres seeks trial by jury, judgment of at least $15,000 for all covered losses, plus interest on any overdue payments, attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by attorney Hewett G. Woodward of The Woodwawrd Law Firm in Orlando.
