Winter Park homeowners allege insurer failed to cover damages

Insurance 06

ORLANDO — A Winter Park couple is suing an insurance company, alleging refusal to apply payments for damages.

Lori B. Williams and James W. Williams filed a complaint Jan. 3 in Orange County Circuit Court against Universal Insurance Company of North America, alleging the insurer breached insurance policy contract by refusing to pay for property damages.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, Lori Williams and James Williams, with their insurance in full force and effect, suffered damages to their property when their dwelling at 1194 Village Forest Place, Winter Park, was damaged.

The suit says the Williamses have complied with all conditions under the policy and timely notified Universal Insurance of the damages. However, the defendant allegedly refuses to pay for all the losses as required by the insurance policy.

The plaintiffs allege Universal Insurance Company of North America has failed or refuses to fully perform under the policy and failed to fully pay for all of losses as required by the insurance policy.

The Williamses seek trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, judgment for losses with interest on any overdue payments, attorney fees and court costs. They are represented by attorney Roger A. Hatfield of Morgan & Morgan PA in Orlando.
