Former employee accuses lumber company of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 12

CLEARWATER — A former employee is suing a St. Petersburg lumber company, alleging wrongful termination.

Jonathan Haight filed a complaint Jan. 4 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Tibbetts Lumber Co LLC, alleging he was fired after seeking benefits for an injured shoulder.

According to the complaint, on June 29, 2017, Haight injured his shoulder while working for Tibbets Lumber. The suit says he was terminated July 13, 2017. Haight says he has suffered and continues to suffer economic and emotional damages as a result of the wrongful termination of his employment. The lawsuit states Tibbetts Lumber retaliated for Haight making a valid attempt to claim compensation for workers' compensation benefits.

The plaintiff alleges Tibbetts Lumber engaged in reckless disregard of his legal rights, and retaliated against him for exercising his rights to seek benefits.

Haight seeks trial by jury, judgment exceeding $15,000, plus costs of court. He is represented by attorney Jonathan I. Rotstein of Law Office of Rotstein & Shiffman LLP in Daytona Beach.
