Orlando homeowner alleges insurer failed to pay for hurricane damages

Insurance 04

ORLANDO — An Orlando homeowner is suing an insurance carrier, alleging breach of contract.

Ivonne Hornedo filed a complaint Dec. 20 in Orange County Circuit Court against Federated National Insurance Company Inc., alleging the defendant failed to cover damages from a hurricane.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, Hornedo suffered damage to her residence at 2496 Rest Haven Ave., Orlando as a result of Hurricane Irma. Although Hornedo says she has filed all necessary forms and performed all conditions precedent to recover under the policy, the defendant has refused to pay the claim for her covered loss.

The plaintiff alleges Federated National Insurance has caused her to retain the services of a legal counsel, and breached its duty under the policy by failing to provide insurance benefits for a covered peril.

Hornedo seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney David R. Heil of Winter Park.
