ORLANDO — An Orange County woman is suing an Orlando nursing home, alleging retaliation and wrongful termination.
Verona Phillips filed a complaint Sept. 29 in Orange County Circuit Court against Caring First Inc., alleging violation of the Florida's Whistleblower Act.
According to the complaint, Phillips, who worked for the defendant as nursing director, was terminated March 17, 2016. The suit says Phillips has suffered damages, lost wages, benefits and employment status, humiliation, pain and suffering and other monetary and non-monetary losses.
Philips alleges she was illegally terminated from employment for reporting and objecting to what she believed to be an illegal activity by the nursing home. The plaintiff alleges Caring First illegally terminated her in violation of Section 448.102, Florida Statues.
Phillips seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages of at least $15,000, including, but not limited to, front pay, back pay and emotional damages, court costs, attorney fees and all other proper relief. She is represented by attorney Noah Storch of Richard Celler Legal PA in Davie.
