Policy holder alleges insurance carrier breached contract

FORT LAUDERDALE — A Miarmar policy holder is suing an an insurance carrier, alleging breach of contract.

Carline Brown filed a complaint Sept. 21 in Broward Circuit Court against Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company, alleging breach of good faith and fair dealing.

According to the complaint, on June 20, 2016, Brown's property at 9601 Boulder St., Mirarmar, sustained heavy wind, rain and/or hail damage while her insurance policy was in full force and effect. However, the suit says, Universal Property has refused to pay the full amount of actual cash value to cover Brown's loss. 

The plaintiff alleges Universal Property failed to pay her the correct amount of insurance policy benefits for the claim, and failed to comply with the terms of the insurance policy.

Brown seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, plus statutory interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Robert A. Reynolds of Duboff Law Firm in North Miami.
