CLEARWATER — An individual is suing Winn-Dixie Supermarkets Inc. for alleged negligence.

Sheila Bernard-Chavous filed a complaint on Aug. 17 in the Pinellas County Circuit Court, alleging that the retail store failed to follow applicable safety guidelines and regulations.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was on the defendant's property on March 13, 2016 when she allegedly slipped and fell on a liquid substance that was on the floor.

The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly failing to adequately warn or notify her of the dangerous condition, and for allegedly failing to adequately inspect, maintain and correct the dangerous condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for damages in excess of $15,000 plus costs. She is represented by John L. Mulvihill of Corless Barfield Trial Group LLC in Tampa.
