FORT LAUDERDALE — A patron is suing Publix Super Markets Inc. for alleged negligence.

Ofelia Martinez filed a complaint on June 9 in the Broward County Circuit Court, alleging that the retail store owner failed to provide a safe environment for its business invitees.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was in the defendant's store on Dec. 27, 2015 when she slipped and fell on a puddle of water, sustaining serious and severe injuries, pain and suffering, mental anguish, inconvenience, scarring and medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly failing to maintain the area safe for its patrons or warn its patrons of the dangerous conditions.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for damages that exceeds $15,000, plus costs, interest and other relief to which plaintiff may be entitled. She is represented by Russell F. Berman of the Law Offices of Berman & Berman PA in Boca Raton.
