Homeowner claims Security First Insurance Co.'s denial of claim is breach of contract

Insurance 08

ORLANDO – An Orlando woman is seeking more than $15,000 in damages after her insurer allegedly denied coverage of her property damage claim.

Courtney Joseph filed a complaint on June 15 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Orange County against Security First Insurance Co. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that while her property was insured under a homeowner's insurance policy, it sustained a covered loss for water damage. She alleges she submitted a claim to the defendant and that the defendant has refused and continues to refuse to pay either all or part of her claim.

The plaintiff holds Security First Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly breached its contract with the plaintiff by denying coverage and refusal to pay the full amount of the claim.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for damages, declaratory relief, attorney's fees, costs, and other relief that the court deems just. She is represented by Peter Mineo Jr. of The Mineo Salcedo Law Firm PA in Davie.
