FORT LAUDERDALE – A Miramar property owner alleges her insurer failed to investigate her claim for property damages caused by a roof leak.

Rhonda Pruitt filed a complaint on June 14 in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Broward County against Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 2, 2015, while her property was insured under a homeowner's insurance policy, it sustained a covered loss for water damage due to a roof leak. The suit states the plaintiff reported the loss to the defendant but the defendant has refused to investigate the claim and failed to make a coverage determination.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for damages, plus costs, interest and attorney's fees. She is represented by Christopher Aguirre of Strems Law Firm in Coral Gables.
