Former University of Central Florida police officer alleges pregnancy discrimination

Wrongful term 07

ORLANDO – An Orange County woman claims that she was treated differently by her former employer because of her sex and pregnancies.

Kristina Wisecup filed a complaint on June 12 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Orange County against the board of trustees of the University of Central Florida alleging pregnancy, disability and sex discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired by the defendant in 2012 as a community service officer. In 2013, she interviewed for the position of police officer and informed the chief of police during the process that she was pregnant, the suit states. After giving birth, she allegedly was told she could only return as a community service officer. The suit states she was eventually hired as a police officer in 2014.

The suit states that in April 2016, she was terminated after giving birth to her second child.

The plaintiff holds board of trustees of the University of Central Florida responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected the plaintiff to adverse employment because of her two pregnancies and sex, was harassed, and treated other employees outside of her sex more favorably.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for damages and other relief which the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Jerry Girley of The Girley Law Firm PA in Orlando.
