Homeowners accuse Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. of breaching contract

Contract 02

FORT LAUDERDALE – The owners of a Miramar home have filed a suit after their insurer denied their claim for property damages.

Porfirio and Clementina Lopez filed a complaint on June 5 in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Broward County against Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that while their property was insured under a homeowner's insurance policy, it sustained a covered loss for water damage, which required necessary repairs and replacements, cleaning and other remedial measures. The suit states they submitted a claim to the defendant but the defendant refused to pay either part or all of the plaintiffs' claim.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendant for damages, attorney's fees, costs and other relief that the court deems just. They are represented by Peter Mineo Jr. of The Mineo Salcedo Law Firm PA in Davie.
