Man claims Hermine damages should be covered by Citizens Property Insurance

CLEARWATER – A Dunedin homeowner alleges that damage to his home from a tropical storm should be covered by his insurer as part of his policy.

Steve Batides filed a complaint on June 2 in the 6th Judicial Circuit of Florida - Pinellas County against Citizens Property Insurance Corp. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 2, 2016, he plaintiff's insured property was severely damaged from water intrusion as a result of Tropical Storm Hermine. The suit states the defendant has denied coverage for the damages.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks declaration that there has been a covered loss under the insurance policy, attorney's fees and costs and all other issues triable by jury. He is represented by Geoffrey Gilbert of Law Offices of Geoffrey Gilbert PA in Delray Beach.
