Property owners seek determination on hurricane damage claim from Universal Property & Casualty

Insurance 05

ORLANDO – Two Orlando property owners claim their insurer failed to make a determination on coverage for damages.

Nelson Villarraga and Denise Matos filed a complaint on June 8 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Orange County against Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Oct. 7, 2016, their property suffered a loss due to a hurricane. They allege they notified the defendant of the loss but the defendant failed to properly investigate the claim or make a coverage determination.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendant, plus costs, prejudgment interest and attorney's fees. They are represented by Jonathan Drake of Strems Law Firm in Coral Gables.
