Man seeks coverage of water damage from Stillwater Property & Casualty Insurance

Insurance 03

FORT LAUDERDALE – A Fort Lauderdale property owner alleges that his residence was damaged by water and is seeking coverage from his insurer.

Henry Schotanus filed a complaint on May 25 in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Broward County against Stillwater Property & Casualty Insurance Co. alleging breach of policy.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff's property was damaged in November 2016 by water while covered under the defendant's policy. The suit states the defendant denied his claim on March 7.

The plaintiff holds Stillwater Property & Casualty Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to acknowledge that payment would be forthcoming and failed to make any payment of insurance proceeds.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for damages, plus interest, court costs, attorney's fees and other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Anthony M. Lopez of Marin, Eljaiek & Lopez PL in Coconut Grove.
