Woman alleges United Health Group retaliated against her because of complaints

Wrongful term 01

FORT LAUDERDALE – An African-American woman is accusing her former employer of discrimination and retaliation because of her race.

Melissa Blaise filed a complaint on May 4 in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Broward County against United Health Group alleging violation of the Florida Civil Rights Act and the Florida Whistleblower Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 29, 2015, she was terminated from her employment for discovering and objecting to defendant's allegedly illegal conduct regarding the Affordable Care Act. She also alleges that she was subjected to racially inflammatory remarks from supervisors and co-workers.

The plaintiff holds United Health Group responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated her in retaliation for plaintiff's discriminatory complaints.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, reinstatement, back pay, unpaid wages, compensatory damages, attorneys' fees, cost and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Noah E. Storch and Richard Celler of Richard Celler Legal PA in Davie.
