FORT LAUDERDALE – A Broward County couple has filed a suit against a doctor and medical facility alleging damages resulting from a surgery.

Knud Hostrup and Maria Luzia Hostrup filed a complaint on May 2 in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Broward County against Dr. Matthew E. Wells and Fort Lauderdale Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine PA alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Nov. 15, 2015, Knud Hostrup suffered a fall in his home and required surgery for a right humerus fracture. They allege that Wells trapped the plaintiff's radial nerve under the plate used to reduce the fracture, which has caused severe and permanent damage to his right arm.

The plaintiffs hold Wells and Fort Lauderdale Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine PA responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly treat patient's underlying condition, failed to perform proper surgical repair of patient's injuries and failed to properly train, supervise and oversee its professional staff.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendants for all compensatory damages, interest, cost and other justifiable relief appropriate under the law. They are represented by John W. McLuskey of McLuskey, McDonald and Hughes PA in Miami.
