Property owner alleges Universal Insurance Co. of North America failed to cover damages

Insurance 08

FORT LAUDERDALE – The owner of a Hollywood property claims her insurer failed to cover the damages.

Brooke S. Heise filed a complaint on April 21 in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Broward County against Universal Insurance Co. of North America alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 7, 2016, she suffered loss and damage to her insured property from a water loss. Although plaintiff made a timely claim for the damage and loss, the defendant allegedly refused to provide coverage under the insurance policy.

The plaintiff holds Universal Insurance Co. of North America responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to fulfill its obligations under the agreement by failing to fully and timely pay for covered losses.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, pay in full the contract of insurance, actual and compensatory damages, interest, costs of action, attorney's fees, and further relief as the court may deem just. She is represented by Andrew P. McDonald and David D. Barnhill of McDonald & Barnhill PA in Tampa.
