MIAMI – A man alleges he was subjected to disparate treatment because of his national origin at his former place of employment.

Reinier Cortes Porras filed a complaint on April 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against LQ Management LLC, doing business as La Quinta Inn & Suites Miami Airport West, alleging that the former employer violated Title VII and the Florida Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired in October 2014 by the defendant as an assistant general manager. The suit states that in August 2015, a new general manager was hired and harassed employees who were Cuban. He alleges he reported the disparate treatment on Sept. 6, 2015, and was terminated on Sept. 9, 2015.

The plaintiff holds LQ Management LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly retaliated against him by falsely accusing him of interfering with its investigation into the discrimination claims and terminated him.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, attorneys’ fees and costs, together with such other relief the court deems just and proper. He is represented by Ricardo Corona of Corona Law Firm PA in Miami.
