ORLANDO – A disabled Broward County man claims a Brevard County hotel has barriers that restricted his access to the property.

Joe Houston filed a complaint on April 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against HRS Hotels LLC alleging violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff visited the defendant's Budget Inn in Cocoa and alleges he encountered barriers there. The plaintiff holds HRS Hotels LLC responsible because the defendant's facility allegedly failed to provide a van space in its parking lot, does not have grab bars in its restrooms, and other alleged violations of the ADA.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, injunctive relief, attorney's fees, costs, litigation expenses, and other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Philip Michael Cullen III of Thomas B. Bacon PA in Fort Lauderdale and Thomas B. Bacon of Thomas B. Bacon PA in Mount Dora.
