MIAMI — A cruise ship passenger is suing Carnival Corporation d/b/a Carnival Cruise Lines, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries after she was struck by a sliding door.

Cathie Raymond of Texas filed a complaint on March 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida alleging that the cruise line failed to properly maintain a sliding door in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on May 13, 2016, she was lawfully aboard defendant's vessel, Carnival Breeze. While walking toward the seating area near the Marketplace food court, suddenly and unexpectedly a sliding glass door closed and struck her. As a result, she claims she lost her balance and fell to the ground, She suffered injuries resulting in pain and suffering, lost wages and medical expenses, she says. The plaintiff holds Carnival responsible because it allegedly failed to warn passengers of the dangerous condition of the sliding door.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, interest, attorney's fees and costs. She is represented by Justin B. Shapiro of Leesfield Scolaro PA in Miami.
