Chanel accuses website of selling counterfeit items

MIAMI – Chanel alleges a website is selling counterfeit versions of its goods.

Chanel Inc. filed a complaint on March 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Safebuyrepublica.ru alleging trademark infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it has suffered injury to its business, reputation and profit as a result of defendant promoting, selling, offering for sale, and distributing goods bearing counterfeits and confusingly similar imitations of plaintiff's trademarks through a fully interactive commercial internet website. The plaintiff holds Safebuyrepublica.ru responsible because the defendants allegedly created and maintains the illegal marketplace for the purpose of diverting business from the plaintiff.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendant, enjoinder against further infringement, account and pay plaintiff for all profits and damages from infringement, costs, attorneys’ fees, investigative fees, interest, and further relief as the court may deem just. It is represented by Stephen M. Gaffigan and Virgilio Gigante of Stephen M. Gaffigan PA in Fort Lauderdale.
