MIAMI – A Broward County consumer alleges a debt collector invaded his privacy.
Steven A. Griffin Jr. filed a complaint on March 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Karmen & Michaels Financial Group LLC alleging that the debt collector violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between March 7 and March 10, his family members received numerous calls from defendant discussing a debt he allegedly owed. He claims his family members were not authorized to discuss the alleged debt on his behalf. The plaintiff holds Karmen & Michaels Financial Group LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly unlawfully disclosed his indebtedness to a third party without his consent.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual and statutory damages, attorney's fees and costs and such other relief as may be just and proper. He is represented by Jordan I. Wagner of Law Offices of Jordan I. Wagner PA in Fort Lauderdale.
