Former Navy Federal Financial Group employee alleges violations of FMLA

PENSACOLA – An Escambia County woman alleges she was retaliated against her for taking intermittent leave to care for an ill family member.

Christa Myrick filed a complaint on March 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, Pensacola Division against Navy Federal Financial Group LLC, doing business as Navy Federal Credit Union, citing the Family and Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that a close family member fell ill with a serious health condition in April 2015 and that her supervisor precluded her from being able to take leave under FMLA by terminating her employment. Prior to her termination, the suit states plaintiff had been a highly regarded member of management who consistently received merit increases.

The plaintiff holds Navy Federal Financial Group LLC, doing business as Navy Federal Credit Union, responsible because the defendant allegedly interfered with plaintiff's rights under the FMLA, and relied on the illegal application of its policies to conclude plaintiff's termination.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant; back pay; nominal, actual, and liquidated damages; injunctive relief; interest; attorney's fees; and taxes costs. She is represented by Heather Fisher Lindsay of Lindsay & Lindsay PA in Milton.
