Carnival passenger claims steps in ship's nightclub caused fall

Cruise 09

MIAMI – A cruise ship passenger alleges an unreasonably dangerous set of steps caused her to fall.

Tari Hafner filed a complaint on March 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Carnival Corp., doing business as Carnival Cruise Lines Inc., alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 27, 2016, she sustained serious personal injuries when she missed her step while attempting to descend a sitting area in the Frankenstein Lab nightclub on the defendant's ship. The plaintiff holds Carnival Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide adequate lighting in the nightclub, failed to have proper handrails to use when descending from the top and failed to provide assistance to those who wanted to descend.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment from defendant for damages, prejudgment interest and costs. She is represented by Paul M. Hoffman of Hoffman Law Firm in Fort Lauderdale.
