Consumer accuses bank of violating phone privacy laws

Phone 06

OCALA — A Lake County woman is suing a debt collector, alleging violation of telephone harassment statutes.

Sandra Seymour filed a complaint March 16 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against Synchrony Bank, alleging the defendant illegally called the plaintiff several times in an attempt to collect an alleged debt, violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, in October 2016, Seymour suffered damages from receiving several illegal collection calls. The plaintiff alleges Synchrony Bank kept on calling Seymour using an automatic telephone dialing system in an attempt to collect an alleged debt and despite the plaintiff's request to stop calling.

Seymour seeks trial by jury, statutory damages, punitive damages, actual damages, all legal fees, interest, and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney Octavio Gomez of Morgan & Morgan Tampa PA in Tampa.
